Health Awareness Camp:
It is a widely held belief that if you educate a man you educate an individual, but if you educate a woman you educate a family. This is the objective of SHG health training imparted to the women by SWARGHAM Trust. Better awareness and emphasis on behaviour change will not only improve the morbidity profile and living conditions of the SHG women but also improve the man-day contribution to economic activity, productivity during working hours, decrease in financial shocks arising from health conditions and an increase in real income through reduced health expenses. The modules for this training are developed under the overarching framework of the UN Millennium Development Goals. The motive is to spread awareness on health and hygiene practices, bring about behaviour change to encourage health practices in their households and community at large.
HIV/AIDS Awareness Camp:
SWARGHAM trust had written a letter to the Headmasters of our target areas requesting him to give permission to conduct awareness camps on HIV/AIDS in 10 Government schools selected for our project. They had granted permission. The awareness programmes were organized every year during the months of November and December.
These programmes were organized in the presence of respective school headmasters and teachers. They also spoke on the prevention of HIV/AIDS. CARD senior staff participated in the camps as resource persons. The importance of individual discipline, how HIV/AIDs will spread and how it will not spread, Impact of HIV/AIDS, Treatment Procedures, ill- effects of drugs and alcohol, the impact of drug addiction and treatment procedures and prevention of HIV/AIDS were explained by the resource persons in all these camps
Special Awareness Program:
Women Empowerment volunteering is concerned with over all development of women. In most of the rural areas of our region women are suppressed by various ways. Women are treated and dominated mistakenly by their male counterpart. SWARGHAM Trust aims to eradicate all kinds of discrimination against women by conducting different projects which support to women make stronger. So, SWARGHAM Trust conducted income generating training to the women, giving basic education to the women, conducting awareness programs about women’s rights and support for Non-violence against woman. Special awareness program organized for women SHGs generally on various developmental issues of national importance.
General Medical Camp:
In the absence of adequate medical facilities in the villages, the medical camps organised by the SWARGHAM Trust not only provides adequate medical care and attention but also provides constant health monitoring. Besides ailing people, the medical camps cater to pregnant women, adolescent girls, children from the Anganwadi and school and elderly residents. The aim of the medical camp is to provide healthcare services to meet the immediate health care needs of the marginalised community in remote rural areas through standalone camps. Customised health camps are organised extensively in the target areas offering comprehensive health services – curative, preventive and referral, to a large number of people in selected intervention areas. The medical camps, which works on ‘free for all’ basis ensures equal access to healthcare with state-of-the-art equipment and medical resources. So far over 12 medical camps have been conducted across the several project areas.
Educational Awareness Camp:
SWARGHAM Trust conducted “Right to Education campaign” and various programs to bring awareness about importance of education, as well as popularize the constitutional right to education given to the citizens of this country. The organisation has spread the message of Right to Education (RTE) Act among the masses that every child has a right to full time elementary education of satisfactory and equitable quality in a formal school. SWARGHAM Trust’s volunteers, staff members and SHGs women members and leaders were participated in the program.
Skill Training to SHGs Women:
The Self Help Groups are the essential platform for the women in rural and urban. The SHGs are functioning well, but they lacked the skill in some areas like communication and soft skills and promotion of small vending with proper planning. This was keenly observed by SWARGHAM Trust and it was also discussed in the meetings of the SHGs and as a result of the need and finding we organized training programs for the women. Normally women are willing to earn money even with a very small street based business on their own. Through these trainings improved their capacity in micro enterprises and handicrafts. The skills needed for a business like communication, promotion of customer relationship, purchasing and selling goods and marketing were taught. Totally 2125 women were benefited through the trainings and become new entrepreneurs in their areas.
Educational Support to Children:
Under this program we have been assisting deserving children, during the past years in obtaining books, school bags, pen, pencil, dictionaries and other educational materials they were in need of. The criteria for selecting the beneficiary children were that they hailed from families were the parents were daily wage earners and who were engaged as maids in rich people’s houses. More than 2335 children were benefited in this program.
Legal Awareness Training:
We conduct Legal Awareness Programmes to enable women and girls to know their legal rights and to understand the procedure and method of access to the legal systems. 1865 women and girls from most deprived community benefitted through this program. Some important issues taken up by us include:-

T.B. Awareness Training:
SWARGHAM Trust implemented TB intervention programs for sensitizing the women, youth and students in Thiruvidaimaruthur and Thiruppananthal blocks, around 150 awareness programs were imparted. The SHGs leaders and community volunteers promoted by the SWARGHAM Trust associated in organizing such programs in Thiruvidaimaruthur block. Around 1960 members of the community and school children were benefited. They took an oath to spread the knowledge to the other people. During the period 355 TB symptomatic persons were referred to Government Hospitals for sputum test.
Sustainable Agriculture Training:
Awareness training programs on protecting the sustainable agriculture the present and forth coming generation were organized. The member of women SHGs in Thiruvidaimaruthur and Thiruppananthal block attended the training programs. The importance of water, air, vermicompost, bio fertilizer, bio pesticides, compost rainwater harvesting, tree plantation, and the responsibility of the people in preventing poison less food and water were discussed.
The concept of green and clean environment surroundings is essentials for healthy life. To promote the understanding on sustainable agriculture, health, pollution and sanitation, three awareness programs were conducted for youth; women and adult CBO leaders about 2125 persons were benefited by this program. The participants took an oath to render the service in promoting healthy situation in their living areas.
Drug Abuse Awareness Training:
The community-based Drug Abuse prevention awareness training was conducted by SWARGHAM Trust. The project mobilised the school and college community to promote a safe environment for the prevention of psychoactive substance abuse among 13- 25 years old young people through a “Youth to Youth” program. The project worked through mentors from community based organisations and friendship groups established in the participating schools.
The project involved stakeholders in the community to organise awareness programmes, leisure activities, life skills training, and lobbying for the creation of employment opportunities for young people. 250 school, college level and out of school youth benefitted benefited by this program.
Tailoring Centre:
In order to give alternative employment opportunity to poor married women and adolescent. SWARGHAM Trust has been conducting free tailoring training in rural areas particularly we give priority to poor women, neglected woman ,woman headed Family, windows, socially vulnerable woman single woman and adolescents to improve their social and economic states. The training has been providing with educated and experienced instructors.
Hence the beneficiary can able to learn proper tailoring knowledge to function independently and earn them-selves in period. The tailoring units have been running in two batches where 20 women can benefit in one batch at every day. At the end of the period recognized certificates are providing to course completion to woman.
Capacities building training:
Capacities building training programmes have been conducted at the community level by project staff, facilitated by external resource persons when required. 98 community training programmes covering 12,160 beneficiaries were organized since its inception. These include training in Education, Health, Leadership, Accounts, Documentation, Livelihoods activities, SHGs, Village mapping and planning, etc. International women’s day was celebrated with rallies and speeches in the project areas with the participation of SHGs women.
Training the women’s groups towards self-reliance is an integral part of the project activity. Women SHGs have been trained in the concepts of credit management, loans and recovery, leadership, management, linkages to credit, enterprise development, credit ratings and liaison, importance of record maintenance, group auditing, federation activities, rights of women and children, and on the importance of personal hygiene and sanitation. At present these women’s groups have become fully independent in their day-to-day functioning and have an excellent record for repayment of debts. Many groups have also passed the credit ratings of nationalized banks and have even procured additional group loans from these Banks for their economic development.
Education Centre:
Education is the key instrument for all development initiatives and change in the human society. It would highlight the person from dust to throne. The development of the children is the key indicator in the social development which is visible only through education.
It is very sad to note that migrant dalit and tribal children are neglected from above process on various reasons. Education is the only instrument to provide opportunity for them to improve their social, economic and political status.
SWARGHAM Trust provides regular evening tuition centres and providing education health and economic progress through various interventions.
In view of improving their language skills, English and Tamil are also taught in the centres which will assist them to converse in the local areas. As per norms and procedures respective state syllabus is adopted in all classes and they and all children are provided books, notebooks and other stationeries Periodical activities and programs are organized for children. The qualified teachers are appointed to teach the children. The schoolteachers are also provided enough quality support on regular schooling and education as per local government norms and procedures. 5865 children from deprived communities are benefitting by this program.
